my one criticism is the front fairing needs an update... Something like a cross between the SG and RG... the dash layout is still on point.

Agreed. And that's exactly why they haven't. They sell like hotcakes in the states.

Same as the Road Glide, they love their daggers over there. I loved mine as well.

In my humble opinion... because their sales are falling.  That is why HD is branching out to adventure bikes, street fighter bikes, electric bikes and even electric bicycles down the track.

The baby boomers are hanging up their riding jackets in large numbers.  They were the group of people who had Harley tattooed on their arms and bought anything with the brand name.  The youngest generation of riders is not interested in buying cars or motorcycles.  They rather travel and experience the world.  In between the two extremes are the rest of us.  Unlike the lifelong hardcore Harley riders, we all rode some other brand only a few short years ago.  We could easily go back to riding another brand.  Selling a motorcycle to us is very different from someone who will not consider any other brand.  We look for value.  We evaluate features.  We are objective.

For Harley to compete with other touring bikes, they have to switch to mono-shock touring frame (for better ride comfort), new fairing with adjustable windshield (wind management), remote lockable hard bags (when I hired a Street Glide for 3 weeks in the States, it was a pain to lock and unlock them with a key, one bag at a time, especially at night) and tyre pressure monitoring system (reassuring to know the tyre pressure).  I had a more modern infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, touchscreen but they have addressed that with Boom Box GTS for 2019.

If or when Harley addresses these things, I will give them another look.
Let's be kind to one another.

DEFINITELY agree on this! It's what's on my display almost all the time... Nice to notice any anomalies in real time such as a slow leak.
