I don't think there is much of a performance difference between the slip-on pipes.  Sure some will read a little higher on a dyno than another set but nothing that you can feel.  If performance is what you chase, 2-into-1 will be the best performer.

If you want the sound, I recommend this thread:

Thankyou for your reply. I am looking for the performance more so than the sound. Unfortunately a two into one will not work on my chieftain,  which I should of mentioned in the original post.

What other mods are you planning?

Once you replace the stock pipes with slip-ons you open up the possibility of greater flow, and all pipes will be pretty much the same. If the motor is breathing sufficiently the pipe has done its work. Pipes by themselves only have an effect at high rpm and wide open throttle (where the stock pipes are unable to flow enough) unless they are combined with other mods, such as hi-flow air cleaner, cams, and tuning to suit.

Other Chieftain owners have fitted 2 into 1 pipes, what do you see as the difficulty?

Thanks Kim,
Just doing some research first, as I have Rinehart on my old Harley and have been very happy with them, on the other hand Bassani have great reviews and a friend of mine has them and loves them.
Will be doing the air cleaner to a hi flow and thinking of doing cams as well .
I have not as yet seen any 2 into 1 pipes fitted to a chieftain, so I was unaware they were available.
Thanks for your advise

Cheers Tony

Here is a link to a good looking 2 into 1 setup on a Chieftain.
They need a support bar for the left saddlebag, but some brands sell a fake pipe so the bike keeps the original look.
