Hi, I have developed a small leak around the seal, maybe like losing 1mm per week, it has also damaged the paint (damn brake fluid).  Spoke to sydney dealer and it seems its a known issue, so keep an eye on it as brake fluid is a real biatch to the paint

They are arranging rectification, more an FYI in case you need to make a claim too

Yes
I have the same issue & have already replaced my seal once.
If you take the  cover off the reserve you'll see there is alot more fluid in there than what you see through the window.
So don't panic.
It may payoff to place a towel over your tank of a night to capture any brake that leaks overnight.

Funny you guys mentioned this!  In January 2016, wife and I toured for 4 weeks riding around Victoria, NSW and ACT.  One day I noticed that I was getting spit on.  No other cars in front of me.  It wasn't raining.  I thought, "what the heck is going on?"  I could feel liquid on my face so I know I was not imagining it.  That night, I pulled into a motel and checked and realised that my master cylinder reservoir was leaking. I borrowed a screw driver and opened up the reservoir.  There was a moulded, once piece black rubber seal just under the metal top.  I took it out and inspected carefully.  Aside from a funny little 'unexpected' bump in the seal that was not following the contour, everything looked fine.  Especially around the edges that would be sandwiched between the two metal pieces (reservoir and the lid).  I placed the rubber seal and centred, and then placed the lid back carefully and tightened evenly.  No more leak.  Funny thing was I just had the bike service before I took off on the trip.  Presumably, the tech checked the level and didn't seat the seal properly?  Not sure.

Hey Face, you said this was a known issue.  Can you find out for us, what component is faulty or susceptible to wear?  I assume it is the rubber seal but just want to be sure.

My understanding is it is the top plate, as its an 'order in' fix but i will confrim once repaired.....The issue once it has leaked you should be demanding the whole cyclinder be repalced as the fluid may have caused damage that will show over time to the outer paint

lucky the brake fluid didn't go into your eyes I figure......  Could have been a lot worse.

yes it was although I didn't ask them exactly what they fixed it appears as if they have replaced the seal and the top lid of the master cylinder

I didn't do that... I was away and I had to fix it myself.  I didn't notice any paint issue either so I will let it go.

My brake master cylinder seal was replaced as it wasn't seat properly from the factory apparently. Non-issue as far as the dealer was concerned. I.e. no problem fixing it at no cost. It was a VERY minor leak I had to go looking for after I saw this thread. Just a few pinhead sized drips squeezing out.
No other issues as a result. A good one to pick up though!

Hi All, So I spoke to Sydney dealer about how the small leak would eventually cause the paint on master cyclinder to peel, they changed it for a brand new one today [smile]
