Hi all,
I have just purchased a Venom Plenum air intake for my Indian Chief Dark Horse and this is powder coated black. I now need to get my throttle body powder coated as well to suit, has anyone had experience with this, do i need to strip it as the heat process will affect it, any information gratefully accepted.

Cheers
Andy

The powder coat place will prepare it according to the existing finish of the piece and their own level of preparation. When I had my plain steel fork lowers done they guy said they do about five different processes to clean it up from any oil etc left over from cutting/forming etc.

You will need to take off any fittings etc, especially plastic stuff.

When I had mine done I chased up a few places here in Newcastle to see how they were reviewed and I decided to go with a shop that does a lot of performance cars and hotrods. I figured that the hotrod crowd would not be supporting a shop that did not turn out good looking work.
Cheers, Kim.

Hi all,
Just an update, Vicbaggers in the states spray their throttle bodies and advise against powder coating, so spray painting it will be for me
Cheers

May I ask why it was ill advised?  Just out of curiosity.

Hi V twin
This is the reply from Vicbaggers

"On the throttle body, we paint those. You have to be really careful with disassembling those. They have little brushes under the cover that make the connection for the throttle by wire. If the little brushes get bent a little, the throttle body will not respond correctly. So we do not chrome or powdercoat the throttle body. We just tape it off and paint it with flat black paint. We do make sure that no paint gets on the inside of the TB."

You would have to disassemble due to the cooking process with powder coating so Yep as I said there the experts and I will be painting mine
Cheers

Very interesting Andy.  Thanks for sharing.  I am wondering if this has something to do with some of the 116ci Big Bore kit experiencing 'Limp' mode from time-to-time. 🤔

Hi Damich, is there an acceptable number of times a bike can enter a limp mode? 🤔 It happened to me once but I have not ridden very much this year.  It is frightening to ride @ 100 kph and the bike rapidly slows down to 40kph.  Other members mentioned that it happened to them several times.  I am hopeful that Indian has addressed this now (with revised 60mm throttle body or relaxed factory tune, etc.,) and no new stage 3 116ci bikes with 60mm throttle bodies are experiencing this issue.  Who knows?
