Interesting that the 116 with the extras did 112 HP and 137 T but the 121 only did 98 HP and only got another 1.5 T.

Seems like a cut-off point is reached after the 116 such that bigger is pointless.

Could also be the Stage 1 Filter, Stage 2 Cams (Indian), Freedom True-Duals Exhaust in the 121, the 116 has Lloydz 585 Cams. I'm not sure what cams are in the 117.

Thanks for posting these dyno figures Peter. Can I ask you if these numbers came out of one dyno machine or from multiple? Some dynos are ‘happy’ and make them hard to compare, apples-for-apples. That is the only reason I ask. Having said that, they do appear consistent with other comparisons I have seen.

Stage 1 slip-on pipes are probably the worst bang-for-buck ‘performance’ modification from Indian. I remember mine making hardly any difference on my previous Indian.

However, the added sound and more performance focused throttle mapping combined to give you the impression of something more. If any new riders are reading this, I would definitely avoid paying $1,800 for a set of Indian pipes 🙄 and fit Rush Warhorse pipes for half the price and just pay for the Indian Stage 1 tune.

If these figures are from the same dyno, the advertisement for the Thunder Stroke 116 Big Bore kit appears to be conservative. From the stock 111ci to 116ci, both running the factory tunes, the horsepower went up 32% and the torque went up 19.6%!! The conservative advertisement promised “20% more horsepower and 15% more torque”. 👍😀

This is an interesting comparison. I would like to see these mods with custom dyno on the PVCX, rather than the older PCV. However, since they are both running the PCV, we can compare - 10.4% increase in horsepower and 8.2% increase in torque. So there you have it. If you own a Indian 116ci Big Bore kit and you want a bit more, Lloydz 585 cams, together with custom dyno tune will give you eye-popping performance. 👍😎  Don’t get the Lloydz 585 and 558 confused. 🤔  The Lloydz 585 cams are better for those who are always in the higher rpm.  They will make your top-end louder as the lobes are much more aggressive.  For most riders, Lloydz 558 cams are a better choice.  Which begs the question... I would love to see what the 116ci + Lloydz 558 cams can achieve.

I found these dyno results!!

All these bikes have stage 1 slip on mufflers and Indian performance air filter for reference. 

  • Indian Stage 2 Cams - Cat left in place
  • Lloydz 558 Cams - Decat
  • Lloydz 585 Cams-Decat
  • Indian 116 Stage 3 Big Bore kit- Cat left in place

The lowest (79.8 RWHP) is the average of the stage 2 cam kits we've fitted, which vary a bit depending on model year and air filters fitted etc. 

The next result is Lloyd 558 cams and PV-CX and decat at 96.5 RWHP

Next up is Lloydz 585 Cams, PV-CX and decat at 106.1 RWHP.

Then the big daddy S3 116 Kit at 110.1 RWHP. 

The other sheet shows the torque curves of all 4.. The 558 cams make better power & torque to 3100 RPM than the 585, but the 585 makes better top end from 3100 upward, so the choice would depend on your riding style. The 116 with both cubes and compression added makes the best torque of all at almost 120 RW Ft Lb.

I got my bike back from having the Power Vision installed and a custom Dyno tune today. I was not and did not want anything other then a safe tune and smoother tuning engine with the extended rev limiter. I am happy with the results. I have the following don't to the bike .

Indian Stage 1 Slip on Exhaust and 6 shooter tips.
Indian Stage 1 Hi Flow Air Filter.
Indian stage 2 Cams
Power Vision and Dyno Tuned .

I agree with happy dynes ,but I really think it comes back to the mechanic tuning and what they think you want to see also. I just left mine to the guy I used as he has a good reputation. The only request from me was smooth the running of the bike ,more torque id better than H.P. for me anyway and it must be a safe tune so the bike does not poop an engine etc. After around a 280 klm. ride though the country side of the Hunter Valley yesterday it is fanatic ,I had long flat roads, up hills and down dales as they say and the bike pulled like a train , then on the twisty bits and coming out of a corner plant it and the bike loved every bit.
