Select Edge

Hello fellow Indian motorcycle owners,

First of all thankyou to both V-Twin & indianchief for assisting me and giving me the opportunity to become a Supporting Vendor on this great forum.

My interests on this forum are more than that of a business nature, my current ride is a 2018 (MY19) Indian Scout that I purchased through Kelly Hewson from the Indian Melbourne CBD store.

So why this introductory post and who is Select Edge?

The reason for this introductory post is to give forum members a bit of an insight into what Select Edge is, who we are and what we are doing.

Select Edge is a new business that I Richard Taranto formed in April 2019, the business was created out of my ever increasing interests in motorcycles after I felt I could offer certain brands of accessories a more active presence on particular forums.

The brand that started this whole venture off for me is Corbin Seats, please don’t be fooled by what google searches come back with, we are the ONLY authorised Australian based distributor of Corbin seats.  Don’t fall into the trap of purchasing what could be a fake Corbin seat from any other so called distributor or reseller in Australia.

If you are looking for a new Corbin seat to improve the comfort of your ride, please check out the full Indian range at http://www.corbin.com/indian/ and if you have any questions feel free to contact me directly.  I have posted the US weblink as it has a fantastic feature for most Corbin seats allowing you to configure your preferred seat online and actually view how your proposed colour combination will look before you commit to purchasing.

When ordering a Corbin seat I will take detailed information from you including your height, weight and inseam if known and we will make sure that the seat is built to offer you the most comfortable riding position available for you on your motorcycle.  Corbin’s experience in getting this fitment correct comes from over 50 years of manufacturing seats to where they are now, the largest motorcycle seat manufacturer in the world.

Another brand that we have introduced into Australia is Dean Speed Customs.  Dean Speed provide a range of accessories with the highest quality welding and finish tailored for the Yamaha Bolt, Harley Sportster and my favourite ride the Indian Scout/Scout Bobber.  Items include handlebars, front crash bars, rear sliders and a newly developed exhaust (see photo below) which is due to arrive in Australia in early July.  This new exhaust will be available in either Stainless finish or Ceramic Black, check out our Dean Speed online shop at: http://www.selectedge.com.au

Independent dyno tests will be done on this exhaust when it arrives in Australia by another forum member who I will request to share those results publicly.

Finally we have made an agreement with Nitron Australia to become an approved re-seller of their suspension components.  Nitron have the R1 & R3 range of Twin Shocks offering a high end solution for those wanting to improve the ride of their Scout/Scout Bobber without any compromise.

For more information on the Nitron R1 & R3 Twin Shock range please check out:

Select Edge decided to become a Supporting Vendor on these forums to give back something to this community after it revived my interest into motorcycles, this was after a 20 or so year absence and initiated my love for the Indian brand.

If you have any questions in relation to this introductory post or need further information on a product we sell, please email richard@selectedge.com.au or phone 0458 133 024.

It's good to see you getting into this. You spent  lot of time searching out the suspension for your bike, so I imagine it's all working well for you. I hope the business does well.
Cheers, Kim.

Well done Richard. Great to see a new supporting vendor. Look forward to catching up on a ride sometime when the weather improves. Would like to see your bike in the flesh also.
Cheers,

I am considering a new seat for my Roadmaster since the stock seat is giving me a sore you know what.  There are 3 things that are holding me back from getting a Corbin, which would be my first choice:

1.) The high cost (there may come a point when the pain in the a__ outweight the pain to my wallet)
2.) The uncertainty as to whether that huge cost would result in the comfort I am looking for (I have already spent $400 on my local seat guy, which came with high praise, to find that it only improved things marginally.  Still can't get 200km done)
3.) The negative feedback I have seen posted mainly in the US forum by just about everybody in regards to poor customer service.  Phone calls not returned, emails ignored and no feedback to customer during the wait are not things I would appreciate.  But it seems this is Biz as usual at Corbin.

I am happy to see that with an Aussi distributor point #3 may be eliminated now, as I hope that they deal with the distributors better then the general public.
Good Luck and I hope all goes well with the new biz.

Hi 1854cc, thanks for your informative post.

I agree with you that a new Corbin seat is not the cheapest upgrade and is something that really needs to be considered before making a commitment to purchase.  Having said that I also did considerable research before I made the commitment to Corbin as a distributor as I only intend on supplying the highest quality accessories, I would rather pass on a cheap quality brand/accessory and not have my name associated with or tarnished by that brand due to customers not been happy with the quality of the products.

Yes the customer service that you mention is experienced by many, one of my aims is to provide the best customer service that I possibly can. I will always return phone calls and emails same day unless I am sick or ill.

Getting back to your current seat where you spent $400 on an upgrade, did your local seat guy take into consideration your height, weight & inseam to get the best fit possible for you?  Did he take into consideration your existing comfort issues and what you were trying to achieve with the upgrade?  For example did you want to sit higher or lower, closer to the handlebars or further back?

Feel free to email or phone me if you wish to take this further and thanks for wishing me the best of luck with this new venture.

My experience matches plenty of US Corbin customers.
I ordered a Corbin touring seat for my Scout and I waited nearly 6 months after being told it'll be about 3 months. I asked for certain features from Corbin's selection and what I ordered didn't match what I received.
I was offered another seat and what wait nearly 12 months! I wasn't offered any discount due to the mistakes made by Corbin or the Australian distributor.
I accepted the seat not wishing to wait any longer.
Satisfaction level 6/10.

Advice to those looking for a new seat look - around as there are plenty in the USA and you can find motortrimers and reupholsters in OZ.

Hi MickB, thanks for your feedback.  I know exactly what you mean, I also had massive issues when I attempted to purchase my first Corbin seat, which was for my own personal use and I wasn't a distributor at that time.  These issues went on for months and I wasn't able to get any of my questions answered and nobody would take my order, it was at this moment I noticed an opportunity and a gap in the Australian market.  Corbin were recommending Australian residents to contact the Australian re-seller at that time and this is where it all went belly up, I notice this particular company is no longer noted as a Corbin re-seller.

Late 2018/early 2019 I completed an order form with a couple of questions and emailed it to the local company in Melbourne who only got back to me after I followed up every 30 days, they simply stated we are waiting for a response, 6 months later and I am still waiting for my questions to be answered and order to be placed!

Since Select Edge became a Corbin distributor I have been able to return all of my emails and phone calls same day so the delay issues with communication has improved immensely for Australian customers.

If a customer orders a Corbin seat off Select Edge and it doesn't match what they ordered, I will either offer an adjustment in the price where they keep the seat they have received at a discount, offer to manufacture another Corbin seat exactly as they have requested at no extra cost or finally offer a full refund and return the seat allowing the customer to purchase elsewhere.

Whilst most of my customers orders have arrived within 4 weeks, I do see this extending up to 5 weeks. this is due to the better weather season in the USA and the demand for Corbin seats increases when the weather is warmer.

I also recommend anyone looking to purchase a new seat to look around as their are many manufacturers and companies that modify seats for motorcycles.  Let's hope Select Edge can bring up the satisfaction level to better than 6/10.

Moving forward, as the new Corbin distributor for Australia I do get many enquiries for Corbin seats, If you still want the Corbin touring seat in a different configuration please email me a photo of your current seat and a price that you want for it and I would be happy to offer it to any buyers wanting to purchase a Scout seat. clearly informing them it is second hand, but is available for immediate delivery.  My email address is richard@selectedge.com.au
