Just got a 2017 Chief Vintage a week ago. The last bike that I should own (said my ol’ Lady). I’m now close to 1,000kms.

Earlier today, while I was on the freeway. The check engine indicator lit up. The code displayed was 520 332 (4). I immediately checked online and got a 2014 document which contains the codes. It says knock sensor negative line voltage too low.

Called the dealer and asaked if I can still run the bike because I still have 200kms to go on the way back to Manila. They said it’s ok, take it straight to the dealership and they will work on the issue and do the 1,000km change oil, maintenance etc.

Is this a MAJOR issue?

Can somebody share a link for the 2017 diagnostic code display & descriptions?

Thanks.

Voltage too low for anything usually points to a battery that's almost dead. A common problem considering how long they're sitting in shipping containers. Dealer should check it and give you a new battery if that's the case.

Hi. When I got the bike, I had a new battery put in by the dealer. So it’s a new battery. Charging is good at 14.3 as seen in the dashboard.

If you have seen this, that is all we have at this stage.  Someone else might be more mechanically minded and maybe CHF is correct.  Even a brand new batteries can have issues.

Hi Patfavoreal.
Interestingly enough I had an engine light on my machine over the weekend.  Didn't see the code and when I went looking for it there was no reference to it......  Not sure if it is the same but when they had a look at it they indicated that it was associated with the fob battery 😕 not sure that this was the correct diagnosis but they used the computer to perform a reset and it is now good to go.

Thanks guys. Update on the issue:

on on my way back to Manila, I rode the bike. It was responding well even if the check engine code 520332 (4) was flashing. After 1 1/2 hours of riding, I felt the bike kinda losing its power.

As soon as I entered the city, 15 minutes away from the dealer,  2 check engine alarms went up and then the bike lost 50% of its power. Like it’s in limp mode. This happens to my 2016 HD heritage classic softail, a default mode when the engine is too hot.... it turns off one of the cylinders. A signal to stop and wait it out until it cools. Well, I now have 3 check engine alarms:

520332 (4)
65590 (7)
65591 (7) front cylinder misfire (based on the threads I saw in this forum)

What a b*tch! It totally messed up my day.

So so I drove to the dealership. The bike is there right now. Left it there.

My fear is, it’s the only dealer in the country. Size and operations wise, it’s a kitten compared to an elephant (hd).

They don’t event know what check engine 65590/1 (7) are all about. I had to show them a screen shot from this forum.

Oh well.... I’ll update you tomorrow. Hope all is well.

Thanks for for the responses. Hoping for more.

Salamat!

520332 (4) Knock Sensor Negative Line - Voltage Too Low

Hi Patfavoreal
I hope you get your bike sorted quickly.
From the code interp V provided it may be a voltage issue. I took my bike out with low battery recently, so low that it stopped 3 times when I started it and only just kept going on a last try. It ran at less than half power for the outward trip. Once the battery was charged the return trip was normal running.

I still think the battery should be properly tested. And then the alternator.

Good luck with it mate. Hope it gets sorted by the dealer for you quickly and properly.
