V-Twin, I have no issue with Andrew at Ashfield, he is such a great bloke and bent over backwards for me, to the point that he went over Chris's head to make the deal happen.

The whole point was Chris wanted me to put in cash from a low mileage bike with my trade and I wasn't prepared to do that as I paid cash for the Harley owned it outright and it had very low km's on it and Chris was only going to give me lowball money for it. Then lied about what he eventually offered us.

As for Rob, I've been waiting on a FOB for my bike since the day it was delivered, on the 25th January, and all I get is well you can still start the bike without the FOB, I have to Keep chasing up about this and he doesn't return phone calls, IT'S NOT RIGHT..

Thanks for sharing your experience with us.  It really does benefit members in Sydney.  You may not know this but Polaris head office does read our forum so it is a great way to give a feedback.  In any case, I have made this post into it's own post.

Re: lowball deal - I think all dealers do that... sometimes disgustingly so BUT that is what dealerships do to make a living so all we can do is buy or walk away.  I can tell you that one of our founding member, Houso Joel, went to trade his Scout for a Vintage and he was given a price for his trade-in.  Later, for fun, he stopped by at a Harley dealer and they offered him $3,000 more for his bike so he bought a Road King.

Re: lied about it - Not sure exactly what happened here but lying is never a good sign.

Re: Fob - If you order a one to buy, will it arrive sooner?  Maybe you can have a mate ring the shop and order a fob.  When it comes in, you take that.  I am not making excuses for the dealer but I know in some cases, 'order' goes through the system but a 'lost fob replacement' might be forgotten.  Either way, I hope you get your fob soon mate.

Don't let any of that cloud your wonderful Indian experience.  Enjoy your bike and keep on riding!!

If it is the same Chris that was the Service Manager when I was dealing with Sydney dealership then I got nothing good to say about him... he flat out denied the Scout throttle issues - reported and recognised worldwide by owners and dealers alike - ever existed. I had to fight him almost daily for 2 months to get my bike looked at - even had to ride it in there even though throttle had a mind of it's own - and sure enough it's in for 3 weeks while they replace the computer! Not an update, not a patch - replaced the computer!

There were two other guys there that were a hell of a lot more pleasant to deal with - but the turnover in staff that has gone through that joint they're probably out of there now...

V you forgot that they dropped the price of a brand new RK to match a used Vintage - which was another $3k and traded all my Indian gear - shirts belts etc for Harley gear!

Top it off I only have to mention that chrome is peeling, something doesn't sound right, whatever.... replaced, straight away no asking!!! I get a phone call telling me new part is in store come and get it replaced. They'll put my bike straight onto a hoist and have a look anything. Today I asked to take a Road Glidde for a test run and they put a double seat and rear boards (took pegs off to do it) on so I could take the Minister for War & Finance with me.... feel like a valued customer every time I walk into the store

Agree with you re Rob.  Had Vintage serviced through him and ordered a couple of accessories while there.  These were mailed to an address in Sydney & I picked them up when down there last.  One accessory was OK but the other was for a Scout.  Check of part number that was ordered matches the Scout part number - so Rob's mistake, not mine.  Ride into dealership (1 hr ride) and get cash refund on item.  Rob not there but all I get is a sheepish apology when I complain that I'm not happy about having to ride in & get it sorted ASAP (I had to be back on the road that day).  Seriously???? The previous Service Manager would have sent me out of there feeling like a rock star for the embarrassment of inconveniencing me.  Just saying I know where I'll be servicing my bike next time.............

The main gripe I really have about Ashfield is that they do not return calls.
I waited 3.5 hours for a return call, nothing so I rang them back only to find that said person had gone home, now that is bullshit.

I traded a very low km Road Glide that was like new on a older model Indian with double the kms  and that's the way I get treated.

From now on Andrew will get all of my business in the future and I'm planning on spending quite a few dollars in there on myself and the missus.

But I'm not letting this dampen the fact that I own a gorgeous looking Chieftain.....just love the bike.

I'm only a recent Indian rider so don't have a lot of experience or baggage with Ashfield.

All I can say is that in the 3-4 months I have dealt with them, Andrew and Robertino have been generous and responsive. So far so good.

And I still love the bike too!

OK, I’m going out on a limb here and I can only say that I am more than happy with the Sales and Service areas of the Sydney (Ashfield) dealership.

I’ve purchased 2 Victory CCT’s from them going way back to when Ezzio was the Dealer Principal.  The reason why 2 CCT’s was because I wrote the first one off.

In mid-2016 Louie, who is no longer there, was the salesman that I dealt with when I purchased my 2016 Springfield.  The Springfield that I ended up buying was a brand new one just out of the crate and was given to me for a 4 day demo ride (it had about 30 klms on the clock). There was no pressure to buy.  I loved it so I bought it. Chris was the Service Manager at that time and he organised the custom paintwork for my bike which turned out great.  It took longer than expected but that wasn’t their fault.  When Rob, the then Dealer Principal, left Chris took over as the Acting Dealer Principal and Robertino moved down from Brisbane and took up the job as the Service Manager.  Chris was subsequently confirmed in his new position and Robertino stayed as the new Service Manager.  I have purchased heaps of clothing accessories from the store, mostly through Andrew who has also been great.

I am truly sorry that some of you have had bad experiences in your dealings with some there at the Sydney dealership.

To cut it short all of my dealings with ALL the guys there have been nothing but great.  Yes, a couple of times I’ve had to call back when I’ve left a message but if that’s the worst thing that can happen then I can live with it.

I'm really pleased that your been getting the service that should be a given to all customers not a select few whether your the buyer of a new bike or second hand one.

I'm not going into detail of my experience in dealing with Robertino or Chris but if it wasn't for the action of Andrew Forde in making the deal happen I may well have still been a HD owner.

If you tell someone something stick with it don't make the customer feel belittled and make them out to be a liar because its not a nice feeling and nearly cost them a deal

Thanks for the early warning about the Sydney dealer, and in particular; .. Chris.
I'm planning to purchase the Scout Bobber soon. However, ... I certainly will be avoiding this distasteful firm!
Can anyone recommend a dealer that provides a good purchase and after-sales experience?
I live in Canberra, however, due to poor car dealer experience here, .. I purchase mainly from better car dealers interstate.
I have no experience from the Indian dealer in the ACT, ... I will be doing due diligence. If they are reputable, ... that's where I will by, if not, ... I will go further afield as per usual!
I'm very new to this good forum and I have spent a few hours today researching all things Bobber. I'm very impressed by the members input and sound advice and the recommendations. I thank you in advance for your good input.  Kind Regards Barry M.

BarryM,
Don't let the service towards some of us dissuae you from dealing with Indian Ashfield as we seem to be a minority and there are some very good salesmen there, one in particular is Andrew Forde

At the end of the day I'm more than ecsatic with the Chieftain and the eventual deal I received take this happen

Yeah agree that the return of phone calls is not high on their agenda.  Have had similar experience.  Shame really because it would be an easy way to make customers/potential customers not feel like they are wasting their time and money.  Just saying follow up never hurts!

Hi Steve, thanks for the good feed-back.  I have had a turn around on the Canberra Indian dealership; ... This previously well run business has now been bought out by National Capital Motors!!! NatCap is one of the reasons I usually purchase interstate. The excellent manager and a lot of staff have left!  .... Natures warning!
I did consider the Sydney dealership, however, .. I won't purchase if I doubt their after-sales performance. Any fool can sell an item, ...

I weighed up my options, Buy in Sydney from a dubious dealer and have to ride >600klms for servicing;  poor communication record is a big warning bell.
I went around the corner, ... looked over a lot of Harley's Street Bob, Slim, ended up test riding a 114 Fat Boy, ... Bought the new 2018 107ci Fat Boy and it was delivered last Wednesday.  The difference between these two Canberra businesses is chalk and cheese!

My last visit to Indian left a sour taste:  I had asked the sales person to give me a buy now price, .. He started $500 above RRP! and their own advertised new price? I pointed this out and he said if I was serious about buying today, he could probably get $250 knocked off this price!

I wish you all safe riding on your very nice Indians and hope Polaris reverse the many issues I have seen on this and other forums, after all, we just want to ride and enjoy our shared experiences and friendships , .... in the confidence we will have total support if any issues should occur.

Kind Regards  Barry M.

This is very weird. I wonder what was going through that salesman's mind when he added money to the advertised price.

When I was moving from the Scout to the Springfield I considered Canberra as I have family there. I went in a few times and was always treated well, although I had to chase somebody up if I had questions etc, nobody approached me. My local Newcastle dealer wasn't really interested and I got a deal with Sydney. The service people at Newcastle are hard to beat and I've always had good service.
Cheers, Kim.

That is certainly one way to loose a sale, as it did but you did your homework and shopped around for the best package for you.

I hope your happy with your purchase, they are a nice bike.

You and your money did the walking, straight out of the Indian dealership and right into the Harley Davidson dealership, maybe the Indian head honchos should take note and start asking a few questions as to WHY !!!

Australia is the only country in the world with Polaris-owned Indian dealerships.  Meaning, there is very little incentives for Polaris to handout dealership licenses.  Why create competitors?  With a limited number of dealerships in capital cities controlled by Polaris, you now have a monopoly.  Polaris AU HQ can dictate the bike prices (ie. no discounting policy).  I guess Polaris wants to maximise profit from each and every bike they sell.  I wonder if such a rigid practice will have a negative impact in the long run?

Recently, I was considering an upgrade to a Chieftain.  Halfway through the model year, Melbourne dealer refused to discount their bikes.  I decided to wait and see what 2019 model might bring.  If they stay firm on prices, I might look at other brands.  Between you and I Barry, Indian has lost two sales.  There would be others who never joined this forum and simply walked away to buy another brand.  It is Indian’s prerogative to set their prices how they see fit.  But in the current economic climate, we vote with our wallets.

...That is beyond funny.  They started above the advertised price by $500 and they came down $250! 😳  I guess that’s extra $250 for the sales person. 😜

Barry, no doubt you will be joining Harley’s HOG chapter and you will have plenty of new friends to ride with... but know that you are welcome to drop in here and join us on rides.  There is a group of us riding up from Melbourne to Gold Coast on 7 July.  The thread shows where we will be staying... if you are nearby and want to drop in and say ‘G’day!’...

What monopoly do Indian with about 6 dealerships in NSW compared to maybe 20 or more Harley Davidson dealerships available, now turn that to nation dealerships, they certainly don't have a monopoly.

They can't seem to see what everybody else can and this may spell the death knell for them, I truly hope not as it's a great product but a great does mean it will have a long life
