Hey Gmac no matter what indian you will buy u will have to atleast allow an extra 20 mins when refuelling.People will come from everywhere to talk to u.

When I had a red Scout 60 I got these conversations in the servo. Now that I'm on a Springfield DH it very rarely happens. Seems the stealth look works. 🙂

When in north Qld filling up an old guy came up and said, 'Is that an old Indian or a new one? I've been looking for the gear shift on the tank.' 😋
Cheers, Kim.

Welcome Macca
Enjoy the ride this weekend,  I am sure it will convince you to pull the trigger. Despite the negativity around some aspects, they are generally minor (with a limited number of minor exceptions) compared to the really good aspects of these bikes. Indians are a genuinely great bike.

Polaris deleted engine guards and hard bag guards from the 2019 Springfield Darkhorse so I would be inclined to negotiate them in the deal.  They can save big bucks.

I just chased up the new ones. The Springfield still has everything, the Springfield DH pics show hard bags but no bars and no windshield.
Cheers, Kim.

That's not very nice. So the Springfield DH is no longer a tourer from their point of view. 😠

What about the air adjustable suspension? That's part of the touring pack in some way.
Indian Motorcycle refers to Springfield as a 'Bagger' so as long as they have bags...  I have posted all the changes for 2019 Springfield Darkhorse in this thread.  No idea about the air shocks... I can't imagine that will change.

I just returned from a 200km ride to Lithgow. Even more convinced now, especially after riding my Mate's brand new Harley Softail Deluxe for a bit. The Chief was sooo much smoother and better all round !

Just re-read your post. I missed a word - thought you said it had no hard bags but you said no hard bag bars. My poor old brain having a moment. 🙂

Spectacular!!

And plenty of noice leather bling added already.

The fishtails looks so good on this set up.

Congrats mate - it is hard to believe, but my bet is you will love it even more in a few months.

Enjoy!

I agree with the fishtails.. firs thing I got the dealer to add to my bike before I even picked it up.  Just makes the Vintage look so . . . well . . . Vintage!  ðŸ˜‹

My 14yo son picked out the fishtails for my RM... and he said the same thing -- they add to  that "classic" look...

Of course, I only asked him because I knew he would choose them  😈

And one day he will walk around behind the bike and scrape his ankle on the fishtails and silently wish he'd made a different decision. 🙂

I chose the fishtails too for a couple of reasons... They give it that classic look in a modern sort of way. And they increase the look of the length of the bike. For me, the Chief and Vintage are perfectly proportioned with the front rake angle to make the length of the bike look spot on - in fact if the leather bags had have been hard bags wrapped in leather and lockable, I'd have a Vintage. The Chieftain looked a tiny bit too short in its proportions (not so much an issue on the RM with the massive boot) and the Springfield really shows the "stumpy" front end look. Springfield should have been based off the Chief/Vintage frame and triple tree imo.

The one small downside to the fishtails, is the slightly tinny exhaust note. Being thinner metal and because of their shape, the exhaust not just isn't the same as round tips.

Hm, as ever Dr Shifty is right.  I have made the mistake of collecting the end of my fishtails (wearing shorts, in garage) & got a scrape or two. Still, on the bright side, it keeps fools away from the bike on the street (and still looks way cool).

We could probably have a thread dedicated to fish-tail battle scars. 🙂

Post up pics of your adventures.
