After having had Indian Stage 1 Slip-on pipes from day one, I wanted something with little more volume. After looking around, I found 2 or 3 that I wanted to try. Unfortunately, I was unable to hear many options in person. The only one that I've heard in person was Vance & Hines Turndown slip-ons. IMHO, it sounded nice but it didn't get me that excited. Why? It was 'little' louder and 'little' deeper than Stage 1 but I was looking for MORE!!
Youtube is full of videos on exhaust but it is difficult to reproduce the exact sound... so in the end, I took a gamble and ordered Rush Racing Warhorse slip-ons with 3.0" Baffles. I fitted them with zero issues (it's always a pleasure when that happens). Started the bike up and oh man! The idle is 'thumpy'!
Previously with Stage 1, when I moved my bike up the driveway without my helmet on it was always a bit disappointing. The bike sounds great if you are standing behind it but when you're riding it, the exhaust sound is not very deep or really throaty (I guess everything is relative) - it also doesn’t help that I have encountered several versions of Stage 1 pipes - some are louder than others (different manufacturers?). Rush warhorse sounds awesome! I can only imagine how much louder and throatier it must be if I was standing behind the bike.
Another observation is, drivers around you will not only 'hear' you coming but they will 'feel' you coming. Rush should rename these pipes 'Rush Seismic Generators'!!
After the initial 'excitement' wore off a little, I started having second thoughts. I went with 3" baffles and I started toying with the idea of ordering 2.5" baffles (slightly quieter) because it is little on the loud side. OK... it is loud! Not by a huge margin. I was bordering on 'I can live with it' and 'it is a bit too loud'. Before ordering, I contacted Rush in the States and they said 3.0" baffles suited most people... hmmm...
I ordered loud pipes so that I didn't have to listen to my Thunder Stroke 111 'clacking' at certain RPM on my 2015 Vintage (my 1st Indian). With that objective met... there was a little voice inside my head that wanted to try 2.5" baffles. Anyway, life got in the way and I ended up riding the bike for 1,500 - 2,000kms without touching it. One day, I realised that exhaust has carboned up and sounded even better and slightly quieter. It was now perfect for me.
So, anyone thinking of ordering OR just fitted Rush Racing Warhorse slip-on pipes with 3.0" baffles... don't touch it. Go for a long trip instead. When you come back, your pipes will sound better!
I've watched every Rush exhaust videos before ordering but you just have to hear it in person. Even at idle it sounds great! If you don't mind louder pipes (not ridiculously loud like straight through Harley pipes - yes I had them 20+ years ago. It use to set off every single car alarms)... I recommend Rush. Not sure what they cost with current exchange rate but you should be able to land a set in AU for around AUD$900 - $950.
Let's be kind to one another.
Update: 1 June 2016
The exhaust sounds even better with Stage 2 Cams. The idle you can feel! Awesome! I highly recommend them!
