I'm going to try some 3M clear auto protection for the rear of the tank.

I tried it but it is not flexible enough to form over the radius of the tank near the seat.
But it is good for the door sills on my car.

Did you try using heat? I've seen that stuff used on some fairly tight angles before.

I thought about it but I was concerned about the adhesive being affected. I might try it on a a similar shaped item.

Hi Gaza,
not sure if is what you had in mind but saw some universal tank pads which was thinking of installing myself. Not exactly cheap but not much is these days apart from my odd home made mods.
This should be a link to youtube vid is long but the pads are close to the start,

If that doesn't work they are from techspec.com.usa  part No 62-0003-SS
Honest I have no connection but if you end up buying would love to know how they worked out and who you bought from for sending to oz.
Cheers Mate.

There's a guy in the States making these. They look pretty good and will give you some protection. His name is Daviz Morales and you'll find him on the Scout forum.
