Dan
Spent the morning in the shed doing a cut and shut on my stock mufflers, I don't mind the look of the standard mufflers except for the length so I chopped 130mm off them.
This is the third mod I have done to the stock pipes, first thing I did a few days after getting the bike was to stick a holesaw in from the back and put a 25mm hole in the baffle plate, this made it quite a bit louder and was an improvement to the sound, after a while I wanted more noise so I removed the cats, this is not easy.
I started by drilling a hole through the middle of them, I had to use a sharpened masonary bit to do this as they are made of some hard shit. I then just chiseled them out bit by bit with a big screwdriver and a hammer (not fun).
This opened up the flow a bit more and the sound got a little louder again and I actually gained about 20km range before my light came on.
Today's mod changed the sound to a deeper note but is still not too loud so I am happy with the result, I'll run a couple more tanks of fuel through it and see if there is any other changes.
Just a note, I have read on forums about people bashing out the baffle plates in these mufflers, maybe the earlier models have different internals but after seeing what is inside the 2018 mufflers there is no way you would bash any plates out of these, so i wouldn't recommend trying it.

that's awesome Dan!
I got a set from the US and drilled out the baffles, but couldn't get through the cats.
The tunnel on the Australian bikes is about 28mm, where as the US is about 30mm

That's what I like about the V&H slash cuts, they have an incredible sound but keep close to the original appearance of the bike. They are a bit shorter than stock though, very similar to where you've ended up with yours.

Just one bit of advice, make sure you're on the right side of that pesky decibel meter otherwise you're going to have to buy a set of standard (legal) pipes to temporarily replace your standard (illegal) pipes.

Apparently a few have been getting hit lately in my area from those nice highway patrol gentlemen. I'm just waiting for my turn lol

Wayward1, yeah they are probably up near the limits but not as loud as a lot of others I have seen around, I'll just have to back off if I see any coppers lol

Can I just confirm you used a 25mm holesaw and put it into the rear of each muffler?  Do you think the mufflers would need to be removed to do this mod or can it be left on the bike?

I also like how you shortened the mufflers, well done.

I did it without removing the mufflers, I'll have a look tonight what size it actually was, it was the closest one I had to the exhaust hole size.

They look very similar to what I had on my Scout from the dealer, but it was a Dealers edition. Mine are Rhineharts, sound bloody great, I've heard the stock pipes, hmmm, not so good.  Still, they look good Brother, nice job.
