The speedo is a sealed unit but is easily removed - the nacelle comes off with two screws and the speedo is held in underneath by another two screws and a frame. Unplug the wires and you can take it to a speedo repair place. I think the lights are LEDs on a printed circuit board but a repair guy might be able to replace them. The lights on the red/cream speedo cause problems for lots of riders at night because there is not enough contrast. My Scout had the same problem and it was almost impossible to see it clearly with only a quick glance in traffic. My current bike has the black/white speedo which is heaps better. One thing to consider with replacing the speedo is that the odometer is stored there and not in the bike's computer. When you replace the speedo you set the bike back to zero kms. The US Indian site shows the black speedo available as an option at $205 but only through a dealer. If you are on the international forum you might also find a used one there. There are several who have swapped the red for the black. And another thought is that Papa Smurf had a prang on an earlier bike and wrote it off. He's the guy who has recently had his new bike converted to a trike. He might be able to put you in touch with whoever ended up with the wreck as a source for a used one at a cheaper price.
