Hi all.  Looking at going the stage one/upgrade on my 2016 Springfield.  All I know is I’m going the fishtail tips but everything else is open to suggestions.  Looking for good rumble rather than simple noise.

any ideas

It might not be in your budget, but I reckon Stage 2 (Cams) gives a good rumble / lope / burble...

... and welcome aboard!!

Cheers for the reply.  Yes it’s on the cards as well.

Not overly mechanically minded, but opening her up a little with a stage one will improve how she runs.  At times feels like she’s restricted, so who knows

I put the round Indian HiFlow air cleaner on mine, along with the Stage 1 pipes and slash cut tips. Those two gave it a nice low rumble.

I then put in Lloyds 558 cams and had it decatted. The noise rose in volume and pitch from a low growl to attack dog snarl, which some people like but I found too loud and aggressive. I swapped the decatted header for a standard one with another forum member. He likes the extra noise and I like the return of the quieter rumble. The 558 cams still give it a bit more exhaust presence over stock.

The fish tail tips always seem to me to be a higher pitch than the round tips, as if they have a tingy sound to them. I've heard similar comments from others, so it's worth listening to a few other bikes for yourself. And I'm probably clumsy enough to give my shins some serious damage if I had fish tails, they seem to sit further from the bike.
Cheers, Kim.

Hey Johnno, welcome to our forum.

I can recommend Rush Warhorse pips.  Here is a review of it.   https://www.indianmotorcycleforum.com.au/post/rush-racing-warhorse-3-0-baffles-review-8130559

re: shark finn tips, long pipe tips are more likely to scrape when you ride off the footpath or over other bumps.  Also, go and open the box and have a feel of shark-finn tip... they are made of light weight material.  Whereas, say the 6 shooter tip is solid chunk of metal.

Cheers for the info.  Shame.  I really like the look of the fishtails.

Hm, I've had fishtails on my Vintage since pickup, not that bad.  Only caught my legs about 3 times, ouch, you'd have thought I'd have learnt after the first time!  I must admit, they make the pipes longer, you have to watch how you park near curbs.  All in all though, love them.  Personal choice, I suppose.

Hi All,
I went the alternate route and installed a Wimmer custom intake ( https://www.wimmercustomcycle.com/RHFI2-ch.php ), TAB Performance Exhaust (https://www.tabperformance.com/Indian-Chief-chrome-exhaust-pipe-mufflers-p/211-1290.htm) and then Lloyds 558 Cams, all with a PCVX and a dyno tune. A fair bit cheaper than Indian gear and happily better performance as shown on the dyno than a mate with a full Indian Stage 1 kit.

Interesting.  Cheers for the info.  Yes I was wondering about other options.

There's a recent post on the international forum where a guy was backing his bike around in the driveway and hit his fishtails into his wife's car. One pipe punctured the door and sill very neatly. 😲
Cheers, Kim.

I hear you Dr.  Still, not as bad as backing your fishtails into your Wife!  That can be neatly done, but no insurance company will cover you for the fallout! (trust me, I know)  ðŸ˜

I have the round air cleaner stage 1 mufflers and fish tales while they are thin they are also tough, I’ve hit mine several times with my shins and with gutters they have never bent, though my shins are the worst for wear. I also have stage 2 cams and I’ve decatted the header. It’s had a remote tune from fuel moto with the PVCX and has a deep bark and also goes very well.
