This question has probably been asked a 1000 times so I will apologise in advance but does anyone know what size the windscreen is on a 2019 Springfield?   Rode my new bike home yesterday in perfect South East QLD weather and found the buffeting around head pretty disconcerting and uncomfortable,  Im only around 5'10" so I understand it should protect me fairly well but....
Have got the JES fork mounted deflectors on the way so hoping they will help but am wondering if I need to go up a couple inches in height for the screen but dont know where they measure the 16, 19 & 21" screen sizes from !

Cheers in advance

Hey SK,

Unless I misunderstood your post, you should be able to measure the height yourself.  Measure from the top of the headlight cutout to the top of the windshield.  Being a US bike the height is stated in inches.

As for the height of the windshield, you would want the top of the screen at your nose height.  This video might help determine the 'right' height.  Make sure to slouch a little when measuring, as we all do when riding.  If you sit up-right, it will be too high when you go out riding.

Do try with your fork mounted wind deflectors and your screen.  Many say it makes a difference.  If you find that your screen is too tall, you might be able have it chopped.  I had my Vintage screen chopped.  If you are interested in reading about my experience, please see this  https://www.indianmotorcycleforum.com.au/post/modified-my-quick-release-windshield-9739000

If your screen is already at your nose height and even with the defectors, you want little more protection, you can try a recurved top-edge windshield of the same height.  The vertical edge flicks the air flow even more than the straight edge windshields of the same height.

The style of your helmet or the placement of your feet (legs deflects the wind) can make a difference as well.

I hope your find the right solution for you.

I'm also 5'10" and had the buffeting until I put on the JES lowers. They cleared it up nicely.

Good luck trying to figure out the real measurement. It seems those numbers are very loose approximations to something known only to a select few aliens who are not letting the world in on their secret. My stock 2018 shield is 15" from the top down to the cutaway centre point.

My understanding is that they make the standard shield and a short one and a tall one. That means mine should be 19". I've no idea how they get that.

Somebody on the international forum said that Freedom Shields measure their lower point at the centre fixing screw on the cross bracket - except there is no screw at the centre line.

V-Twin must have posted his reply a second before I did as it wasn't there when I read your post. The problem with that video is that it doesn't know about the confusion with Indian's shields.

Here's what I mean. These are the pages from Indian's accessory list for the Springfield.

Tall - 21 inch, three inches higher. Standard must be 18 inch.
https://www.indianmotorcycle.com/en-us/shop/accessories/wind-protection/2880915/

Short - 13 inch, three inches shorter. Standard must be 16 inch.
https://www.indianmotorcycle.com/en-us/shop/accessories/wind-protection/2880916/

Short flare - 14 inch, five inches shorter. Standard must be 19 inch.
https://www.indianmotorcycle.com/en-us/shop/accessories/wind-protection/2882221/

There is also one that's 11.3 inch coming soon but has no reference to standard height in the listing.

SouthernKiwi's 2019 Springfield and my 2018 Springfield DH both measure 15 inch. There is no sign of 15 inch on their website.
Cheers, Kim.

I looked into getting a Freedom flip shield for mine but the size is beyond what they were prepared to ship to Australia. Things might have changed since then.
Cheers, Kim.
