Hi Peeps , Dags from Coffs here . I have an Indian Scout Bobber and I would really like to change the Euro style plate bracket . Now I know this is a quite common complaint and there are quite a few threads on here with what you guys have done to over come this issue But I am aware of the regulations regarding legal requirements of display of licence plate being clear view of all characters at a 45 deg angle from centre of rear ( left , right and above ) . I have been doing some research and it looks like the side plate mount that is standard in the U.S. is if not quite legal its very close and would be easily adapted to extend back further to comply . Now I can't seem to find anywhere to get these from the U.S. but if anyone else know anyone in the U.S. and can get hold of the necessary parts shipped to Aus I would be happy to not only pay for the parts and shipping I will also test fit and if needed design and manufacture any adapters to extend it towards the rear of the bike just enough to be legal . Let me know if you can help or any ideas . Thanks Dags

Everything I've read regarding the placement of rear number-plates on motorcycles describes the conditions for visibility, NOT the physical location itself. Depending on which state you're in, the requirements generally describe an angle of tilt (0-45° from vertical), arc of visibility (generally 45° either side of the longitudinal axis), and visible distance (20m). I see no reason why a left-side mounted number-plate can't meet those conditions, so long as it is placed rearward enough that it's still visible at a 45° angle to the right-side of the tire.

But then, I don't enforce the rules, I just try not to break the dumb, poorly enacted, or outright illogical ones...

Hi peeps just an update , i received a package from Partshark today . It was the U.S. style OEM side mount plate holder parts , i have put it together and installed it on my 2018 Scout Bobber and surprise surprise after doing all the measurements and calculations it is quite within the legal specifications on displaying the License plate . I will see how much attention it gets from the peeps in blue shirts .

I am keen to see this as well - for my standard scout that is.
Also interested to see how our rule keepers take notice.

From everything I have read its within the legal requirements so should be fine but as usual sometimes those who uphold the law aren't quite up to speed with all the intricacies or specifics

It does look sweet. Now I need to know where I can get the standard scout version from.
Will be interesting to see who takes notice in the coming months.

Hi KL Scout , just had a look on Partshark and there is no option for this type of mount for the standard Scout . Not OEM anyway , you can get aftermarket ones but they don't meet the legal requirements .

Hey Dags, I thought about this too, what did you have previously, just standard?

I have the genuine tail tidy (not OEM, the upgrade) and I love it!

Good to head Dags! Quick question, when you bought yours from PartShark, did you have to add each of the component parts to your shopping cart individually, or is there a complete assembly option there somewhere that I'm just not seeing?

https://www.partshark.com/oemparts/a/ind/5a3a910b87a8660eb45eba54/chassis-license-plate-holder-all-options

You'll need items 1 - 12 in the list linked above. Note that for items 3, 4, 9, & 10, you need to order qty. 2 ea. The needed quantity should be already selected on the order form as a default.

Hi Sokki , yeah NZ cam is right with required parts but as for qty it is already set to qty of each part required.  I have tried to find the exact amount i paid but i believe it was around $270- $280 incl freight but i have found out that you can get the whole kit through Indian Australia for around $320 delivered.  Thanks
