This is a short side road for those riding the main highway. It was where the highway used to go before they built the dual carriageway between Coolongolook and Bulahdelah to the south.

A few minutes south of Coolongolook you'll see the sign to Wootton to the west. This road takes you up into the hills and through some beautiful country. The road is well maintained, is wide and full of sweepers through the tall trees. The village of Wootton is along the way.

Keep going south and you'll come back to the main highway after 20 or 30 minutes of delightful bike road instead of the main highway. The south end of the road is at the United service station a few minutes north of Bulahdelah.

The only problem you might find is that the tall trees and little traffic means that in winter there might be wet leaves on the road that heavier traffic would have swept away.
Cheers, Kim.

It is terrifying when you realise that everyone heading north/south on the Pacific Hwy had to use this road, this included semi-trailers etc. I used to have panic attacks thinking about driving it.
in recent years I have participated in a Hillclimb event held in September on this road.

i too found the leaf litter to be a little annoying.
